A New Season for the Cider Business
Rootwood Ownership Announcement: Koenig Sisters Take Full Ownership of Rootwood Cider Company
Rootwood Cider Company is excited to announce that ownership of the business was recently transferred wholly to the Koenig sisters - Emily, Kate, and Anna. The Koenig family started Rootwood Cider in 2014 as a natural extension of their family orcharding background, which has spanned over a century in the Lake Chelan Valley. The Koenig sisters represent the fifth generation of Koenigs that have been a part of farming family apple orchards in Manson, WA and bring a diverse skill set to the company.
The venture into craft cider-making was a somewhat uncharted path for the family business, which had traditionally tended the orchards for commercial apple growing. From day one, Rootwood’s focus has been on providing small batch, high quality cider directly from their own orchards and local apple producers. The business is truly a labor of love, as the sisters play a hand in each element of cider-making - everything from the cultivation of the apple trees, to the autumn harvest, and eventually to the creation of crisp, hard cider that has won several prestigious medals in the company’s small lifetime. Sipping a Rootwood cider is an orchard to glass experience in the truest sense.
Under the new ownership, Rootwood will continue to produce a combination of traditional and modern ciders - both heirloom apple blends and single-varietal products, and small-batch experimental ciders such as the syrah-infused Rosé, honey infused Pollinator, and ghost chili pepper infused Golden Ghost. Cider will be available in the same great format - by tasting flight, glass pour, or growler fill at the tasting room, via the Cider Club, or through easy one-stop shopping at the online shop.
Emily, Kate, and Anna look forward to this exciting venture and can’t wait to welcome you to the Orchard Tasting Room in Manson!
